Course Description
The student is exposed to the physiology, clinical and laboratory diagnosis, and management of the infant and child with congenital and acquired heart disease. Physical examination skills are emphasized during participation in the out-patient clinics at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Cardiology ward rounds are conducted daily providing the opportunity to follow hospitalized patients from clinical diagnosis to cardiac catheterization to cardiac surgery. Interpretation of pediatric electrocardiograms and echocardiograms are included the individual patient's
evaluation. Fundamentals of cardiac electrophysiology and pulmonary physiology, as it relates to heart disease, will be discussed in scheduled tutored session.
